San Juan Islands Gourmet Kayak Expedition

Get ready for a “pampered paddling” experience in the San Juan Islands, complete with gourmet cuisine and Washington wine.

As seen in Sunset Magazine, Seattle Magazine and AAA Journeys Magazine…

The San Juan Islands host some of the most beautiful wildlife and sightseeing in Washington State. Savor Seattle has partnered with San Juan Outfitters to offer you the chance to explore this gorgeous region from the sea-level view of a kayak!

Instead of typical camping fare, our guides prepare gourmet meals using recipes developed by Savor Seattle’s founder, Angela Shen. Fascinating sea life and spectacular sunsets are complemented by entrees like braised short ribs, desserts like raspberry white chocolate cheesecake, and Happy Hour treats like Fran’s Chocolates’ salted caramels. Each dinner is paired with a selection of Lost River Winery’s wine.

This is the ultimate trip for the gourmand who enjoys nature, the outdoor enthusiast who loves a great meal, or anyone who would like to relax on a beach with a glass of wine after a day of kayaking in the beautiful San Juan Islands.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1
Your trip begins today at 11:00 am in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, WA. A picnic lunch of deconstructed Vietnamese salad with meatballs accompanies a discussion of paddling technique and a review of the upcoming adventure. We will then paddle along the undeveloped eastern shore of San Juan Island and through the Wasp Islands and take a break for a short hike on Yellow Island, a remote nature preserve. Afterwards, we will paddle to Jones Island State Park, our camp for the first night. We’ll set up camp and enjoy happy hour, grilled salmon with smoked sea salt paired with Boomtown wines, and rosemary olive oil cake with macerated fruit for dessert.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast of bacon and spinach faro with scrambled eggs, we’ll explore the scenic northern shorelines of San Juan Island. Today’s journey takes us through a spectacular section of the islands, plentiful with wildlife. Our tour will take us through the Speiden Channel, passing along the expansive shorelines of Cactus Island, John’s Island, and Haro Straight, a favorite salmon-hunting ground for resident orca whales. We will land on Stuart Island, where we will set up camp for the evening.

Enjoy a happy hour of Fran’s salted caramels and local cheese with truffle honey. After short ribs for dinner, make sure to save room for dessert!

Day 3
Our final morning takes us south through Reid Harbor and across the Speiden Channel, where we will work up an appetite for corn soup and grilled shrimp served with jalapeno cornbread. We may even circumnavigate Stuart Island before saying goodbye to this beautiful place. A stop on the west side of Henry Island for crudités with truffle salt will be highlighted by expansive views of the North Cascade Mountains to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the southwest. Our tour will finish today between 3-4pm in Roche Harbor where our luggage and shuttle van awaits to transport us back to Friday Harbor ferry terminal, or local lodging.
