4 Must-Do Activities for Summer in Seattle

Ahhhhh, summertime. The sun is bright, the weather is warm, the days are long, and fun is all around. We might be known as “The Rainy City,” but nothing beats summertime in Seattle. While we here at Savor Seattle Food Tours know full well that Seattle is a tasty city, we also know that it has no shortage of fun summer experiences. Don’t let the Seattle summer pass you by without doing these 4 super-fun, must-do activities:

Check Out Some Live Music

Who doesn’t love some good, live music? Music plus awesome summer weather? Now that’s a recipe we can’t get enough of. Seattle has always been famous for our musicians–Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam, Jimi Hendrix, and Sir Mix-a-Lot, just to name a few. Summer in Seattle is full of festivals (Visit Seattle has a full listing), including Bumbershoot, an annual international music and arts festival with upwards of 80,000 attendees, taking place on Labor Day weekend (Sept 1st – 3rd) at the Seattle Center. If a large festival like Bumbershoot isn’t your thing, then check out a more low-key festival. There’s so many to choose from that you really don’t have an excuse to miss out on live music in Seattle this summer! No matter who or what you’re listening to, there’s just something enchanting about sitting outside in gorgeous summer weather, the feel of the sun on your skin, the sky glowing in pinks and purples from 9pm sunsets, the taste of a great cocktail or glass of wine, and the sound of your favorite live music. Fish Tacos and Ice Cream

Not necessarily together, but what says “summer” more than fish tacos and ice cream? They are two perfect summer foods that offer so much YUM and so many options. Seattle seafood is obviously amazing year-round, but biting into a fish taco when the sun is bright and the weather is warm might just be the very definition of perfection. We can’t possibly pick a favorite (it’s just too hard) so you might have to eat your way around a few places. We recommend trying Agua Verde Café and Paddle Club, where you can dine at a waterfront café and enjoy fish taco selections such as catfish, Alaskan cod, Alaskan salmon, and shrimp. You can also kayak or paddle board and enjoy astonishing views of the Seattle skyline. We also suggest El Quetzal or Cantina de San Patricio, where you can eat delicious fish tacos right in the famous Pike Place Market.

And when you’re ready to satisfy that sweet tooth, head on over to Molly Moon’s ice cream shop, offering 14 daily flavors––10 “always” flavors and 4 mouth-watering seasonal flavors. With flavors like melted chocolate, maple walnut, and salted caramel, you’ll understand why there’s a line out the door. Also stop by Cupcake Royale, a bakeshop and ice creamery voted Seattle’s best. They offer decadent deliciousness such as their Royale extra dark chocolate ice cream full of intense chocolate flavor, as well as to-die-for red velvet cupcake ice cream. If you tag along on our Chocolate Indulgence Food Tour, you can taste their Royale extra dark chocolate ice cream as well as their heavenly cupcakes.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

It’s just not summer without America’s favorite pastime! The sights and sounds of a baseball game scream summer, and in our (totally unbiased) opinion, the Seattle Mariners are the best. The Mariners always make it fun, and you can get tickets for as little as $7––that’s cheaper than a movie ticket. Since we’re all about the food here at Savor Seattle, we can’t leave out the yummies. Safeco, the Mariners’ home stadium, has really stepped up its food game. Chow down on their New York style pizza, buttermilk marinated fried chicken, tacos, Italian ices, ah-mazing ice cream sandwiches, and waffles. And if that’s all too fancy shmancy for you, then stick with traditional ballpark fare such as hot dogs and burgers. Trust us, you won’t go hungry while you “root, root, root for the home team”.

Go Kayaking

Seattle has some of the most gorgeous waterways in the country, so don’t miss the opportunity to get on them and take in the beauty. Kayaking on pristine water is an amazing way to spend a summer day and connect with nature. The sunshine, the water, the breeze, the sights and sounds of nature…it’s all perfection. If you don’t experience the Pacific Ocean in Seattle on warm summer’s day, you are seriously missing out. And if you’re feeling adventurous (and hungry!), try our Gourmet Kayak Expedition, a pampered paddling experience that takes you kayaking in the scenic San Juan Islands on a 3-day food and nature adventure. Eat delicious gourmet meals prepared by your guide as you soak up sun and stunning wildlife (orcas, seals, jellyfish, deer). It’s the perfect trip for the nature and adventure-loving foodie.

Ready to go out and conquer summer in Seattle? Remember, this is only a teeny list of Seattle summer must-do fun. And, ahem, not to toot our own horn, but we’ve been told that our food tours are also a Seattle must-do. So, consider adding a food tour of Seattle’s most delicious local food to your Seattle summer repertoire of fun. May we suggest our most popular Tour of the Pike Place Market, or the decadently delicious Chocolate Indulgence Tour.

Seattle has so much to offer in summer. Get out there, explore Seattle, and discover your own awesome sunshiny fun. No matter what you do, be sure to soak up every drop of summer! Have fun, laugh, and make amazing memories. Seattle truly is amazing this time of year, and we don’t want you to miss a moment of it.
