Tis the Season in Seattle: Christmas for Foodies

Christmas time is here and so is all of the chaotic fun that comes along with it! While it’s easy to get wrapped up in the stress of gift-buying, house-decorating, card-sending craziness, let’s not forget to take a step back and enjoy the season! It just so happens that some of the best memories of the season center around food—whether it’s shopping at a Christmas market with the perfect snack in hand, making colorful gingerbread houses, baking homemade holiday treats, or cheers-ing the season with some killer cocktails. Seattle is your place for year-round foodie fun, but it’s especially amazing during the magic of the holiday season. There’s tons of Christmassy food events in Seattle, and we’re ready to share some of our faves with you!

Holiday Drinks That Don’t Suck

No, seriously, that’s what the event is actually called. We can’t take credit for the snarky name. On Saturday, December 16th, from 1:30-3:30 pm, drop into the classic cocktail lounge Rob Roy in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood and become a holiday expert mixologist, as you learn how to make some amazing mixed drinks from Paul Clarke, editor of Imbibe magazine. You’ll learn about classic and contemporary holiday drinks, and bonus! —the class also includes some “bartending 101 technique” so you can brush up on your hospitality skills. This awesomely festive cocktail class is now 7 years running. Your ticket price includes 4 cocktails and a surprise gift. You can buy tickets here, but hurry—this event sells out every year!

Gingerbread House Decorating Happy Hour

Who says those adorable little too-cute-to-eat sugary houses are for kids only? Not this time, ladies and gentlemen! Enjoy some adult-only gingerbread fun on Tuesday, December 19th from 6 – 8 pm at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Seattle. Show up with your (21+) friends and family and let your inner child run crazy as you raid the buffet of frosting and toppings to transform a pre-made gingerbread house (included in the price of your ticket) into a delicious work of holiday art that would terrify any dentist within a 20-mile radius.  And you get to do all of this while listening to festive mixed tapes and enjoying seasonal popcorn and boozy drink specials at the cash bar. And don’t worry, more than just gingerbread glory and bragging rights await the winner—the lucky guy/gal will also go home with a $40 gift card to Goldfinch Tavern. Get your tickets now before this super-fun holiday event sells out.

Gingerbread Stomp

Yea, gingerbread is a big deal this season. But this event, happening at Summit Public House in Capitol Hill on Sunday, December 17th from 4 – 10 pm, is not your run-of-the-mill gingerbread decorating event.  Why, you ask? Because the losing gingerbread houses literally get smashed into dust beneath the victorious shoes of the gingerbread house decorating champion. That’s right—the winner gets to stomp on the losing gingerbread houses to music of their choosing. The champion also gets dinner for 4 to The Butcher’s Table (a $500 value). There are also gift card prizes for 2nd and 3rd place winners. Contestants must submit their gingerbread masterpiece by 9 pm on Sunday December 17th and guests will judge all the entries. There is a $20 entry donation fee and 100% of contributions are donated to Lambert House in Capitol Hill. Awesome prizes, food and drink specials, festive gingerbread fun, and all for a good cause? Sounds like the complete holiday package to us! This event is 21+ and advance tickets are not required.

Food Truck Festival at Winter Feast & Holiday Bazaar

What’s the holiday season without festivals, and what’s better than a food truck festival? Sunday, December 17th, between 10 am – 4 pm, is Seattle’s Winter Feast & Holiday Bazaar located at the Fremont Sunday Market. This festival is Seattle’s favorite holiday shopping/food experience and it’s an amazing opportunity to shop and eat local. There’s handmade booths, fun holiday activities, and the most important part: Tons. Of. Food. There will be over 100 local food trucks at the festival as well as mouthwatering street food. It’s a perfect, delicious holiday event that is great fun for all ages!

Holiday Tea

If you’re looking to get a little fancy during the holiday season (and why not?), then check out Holiday Tea in the Fireside Room at the Hotel Sorrento, occurring December 11 – 24, and December 26 – 31 from 10 am – 2 pm. Hotel Sorrento has been delighting Seattle with holiday festivities for over a century. Their Fireside Room is joyfully decorated and brimming with warmth. Enjoy a traditional holiday tea experience where you will be treated to decadent pastries such as fresh baked scones and chocolate filled croissants. Savor some cucumber finger sandwiches and chicken salad. And of course, the tea! Try traditional Earl Grey or the more adventurous White Peony and African Amber. The menu is as delicious as it is classy. If you want in on this cozy holiday shindig, you’ll need 24-hour advance reservations, which can be made by calling (206) 693-3767.

Seattle is definitely your place for making mouthwatering memories this season. Don’t let the deliciousness of the season pass you by.  Don your favorite holiday sweater, get on out there and have some festive foodie fun this Christmas in Seattle. Happy holidays!
